Hello people of the internet! I’m Ross, a British man who’s here to talk about the AMERICAN “holiday” known as Black Friday. On a Thursday. With over a week to go until the actual Black Friday. Although I always thought Black Friday was the last Friday before Christmas? And what’s Cyber Monday!? When did that happen? Anyway…
Black Friday: Let's talk about it
I dare say you’ve all been swarmed the past few days/weeks by business after business giving you their early Black Friday deals. Which I’m not going to lie, does irritate me. It used to be “Black Friday” but now it’s “Fuck it, it’s November so let’s go!”
So I thought I’d jump on here and talk about it all just so you know what we’re doing.
Long story short - not my style, I usually like to drag it out. Feel sorry for Rachel - we’re not technically doing any Black Friday sales. We are doing something, but I’ll talk about that in a bit. We’re doing this…
Does this count as a sale? I mean it’s like a sale isn’t.
I won’t bullshit you though. We can’t really afford to do some big-ass Black Friday sale. The reason some businesses can afford to do big sales events are usually down to one of a few reasons:
Inflated starting prices
They do it at scale so don’t need to earn as much per product
They’re clearing out stock
There’s a bunch of other reasons, but I don’t want to turn this into a super boring “Ross chats about random shit” newsletter.
Tell you what, I COULD ramble about the business side of all of this. The shit I’ve learned the past year with “devaluing” ourselves, the pressure at times to bring orders in, and all that jazz. But I feel like it would be long-winded. So I’ll leave it to you. If you want a rambling email about it then I’ll write one, if you don’t then I won’t.
What are we doing for Black Friday?
So we’re not doing a big sale, but we’re still doing something that I hope will be somewhat mutually beneficial. We’re basically going to give you up to £20 in FREE products - it’ll be between £10-20 - if you spend £50.
Technical stuff: One use of this per customer and it only applies if you spend over £50. So not £50 with £10 off in Teddy Points. As that’s £40 😂
It might be 10 Teddy Pots and a clamshell, a candle, room sprays, 3 bags of brittle, 4 clamshells, a 16 inch double ended dildo. Who knows!?
Side note: You’re not having the double ended dildo. Although it is just hanging around up the unit.
I’ll be totally honest with you though, as some of you already know we are going through a rebrand behind the scenes, so we kinda need to clear some space ready for the new stuff in the new year.
So you can get a pretty decent freebie and we get to clear the shelves a little bit. Seems like a fair trade, right?
I know we’re taking a risk
I dare say there might be people reading this going “fuck it, I’ll shop at X since they’re doing 30% off.” And that’s honestly fine. I think ever since we started this business I’ve always HAD to be comfortable losing people. If you talk about rimming in a newsletter, or touch your nipples in a video, stamp on someone’s “order” when packing it, or call someone a nonce then you’re walking a tightrope.
Some people like us and we have this really cool community of like-minded people. Other people just block us.
I’m ok with that.
Unfortunately I have to carry this flag into my proverbial grave. What’s the old saying? Live by the sword, die by the sword. At times it’s an immense amount of pressure to carry my care-free attitude into a business knowing full-well that our livelihood depends on it. Honestly, I sometimes doubt myself.
I’ll sit here going “maybe the business would do better if you didn’t talk about shoving things up your arse.”
It’s all fun and games if the business is doing well and the risk feels minimal. But no one wants to think “I lost it all because I talked about funnelling 4000 sweets into my rectum.” Alas, here we are. I think over the past year I’ve learned to almost laugh into the abyss. No one really likes someone moaning going “oh we’re sinking here” they’d much rather see a pirate atop his mast laughing his way under the waves.
Anyway… What stuff have we added?
You might just be sat there going “Ross, shut up mate and tell me what stuff I can buy please.” Ok. We have added one new thing that some people might like…
Teddy Pot Sample Boxes
So this is our Christmas one that has TEN Teddy Pots which you can currently only buy via this box.
I think three of them are totally brand new, and the other 7 are ones we’ve done previous years but have come back.
But if you’re not a fan of Christmas scents, then we do have three other options available. The cool thing with these boxes is we can theme them so if you like Fresh/Clean scents or Food, or perfumes, then we can put 10 scents from that range in one single box. It’s a little bit like a mystery box, but at least you get certain scents.
We could technically add more, like a mystery one, perhaps a “most popular” one. We’re three scents short of being able to do a Dark Masquerade one. But yeah, we have options.
Due to overwhelming, phenomenal demand…
We’ve added the Story Time Bundles to the website. Yes, that’s right. You all know by now about the Story Time Candles, then we did Christmas Story Time Bundles, well now we’ve got normal ones too! They look like this…
Usual thing applies…
You pick the book, we’ll pair the scent
Simply pick your chosen book from the available options on the drop down, and we’ll pair the scents. The one above is the Houseshare. It’s about a house, so naturally it has fresh & clean scents with it.
More brownies & Cookies added
As usual, we’ve added more brownies and cookies to the website. We haven’t added as many as usual, but we are doing 3 different cookies!
We have Nutella, Ferrero Rocher, and Kinder Bueno.
Then as brownies we just have Salted Caramel Twix and Toffee Crisp - as new ones - and then Salted Caramel, Oreo, and Christmas decorated brownies! Which will look a little bit like this - but not a blondie:
I think that’s about it…
So yeah, the new website is live. Feel free to go check it out and see what you think. Let me know if there’s any errors and I’ll try and fix them ASAP. It is a little bit of a work in progress so there are bits I need to adjust/add to it. But I felt it was better just to get it up and deal with it.
Sometimes you’re better just diving balls deep into something and learning to swim rather than overthinking it on the sideline.
Thank you to everyone for the support in whatever way you show it!
Much love,
Ross & Rachel x
