Hello people of the internet! Well there we go, we made it to the end of another week! Unless you died last night. Which if you’re dead and you’re reading this then big up on you for REALLY putting the effort it. I’ll give you some credit there, you’re certainly committed. Anyway… They always say the first paragraph of an email is vital in order to “hook” readers in and get them to want to read more.
Nah, butt. This is Teddy Eva Scents innit.
So this week I can say that the Emo range is now BACK!
Not only is it back, but we’ve also added a bunch of new scents. By “bunch” I mean four. Did we add four? I think we did. I’m not going to lie to you, we had the VAT return to sort this week - the royal “we” there - and my head is frazzled.
So I don’t know what's happened this past week even if I poured some of these myself. Let’s take a look at the designs!
My favourite here in terms of the design and feel of the wax melt is “Let’s Lay on the Dead Grass” - I think I talked about it earlier in the week didn’t I? But I also REALLY like the smell of “So Long and Good Night” - here’s what I wrote on the description:
If I'm being totally honest, and this might put some people off, but this one actually makes me feel like Death is watching me. Not in a "having a wank in the corner" sense, but in a "I'm waiting for you" sense. Not sure what's worse really.
Professional as ever there, Ross. But yeah, it has this crisp coldness to it, but it’s also somehow comforting. Perhaps that’s how death will feel.
Oh, we’ve also changed Black Cherry Parade so that it now has its own scent - it’s no longer Black Cherry and it’s now…CHERRY.
Doesn’t make as much sense, but it means we get to keep the two.
So if you want to check out the full range and see what’s back, feel free to hit the following link. Or you can just continue reading about brownies…
Our Brownies are back!
Ok, so it’s been a couple of weeks since we had the brownies on the website - so much for “restocked every Friday” - and that’s mainly just down to us struggling to find the time. We were going to do some book-inspired brownies for World Book Day, but just never got the chance. So we have got TWO for this week. Kind of.
We have “Queen of Hearts” and “Winnie the Pooh.”
Ok, I won’t bullshit you, Queen of Hearts is literally just Salted Caramel with pink hearts on top. But there’s only so much you can do for an Alice in Wonderland one.
The Pig chocolate one is a honeycomb brownie with pigs on top - makes sense, right!
And then for Oreo we’ve dropped the biscuit and put half a Oreo egg on top instead - it is the season of Easter after all.
Oh, we also have the newest product in our continuing effort to rebrand stuff. This time we’ve got MATCHES!
I’ll be honest, we’ve added these because I’ve thought a lot about the whole “experience” of doing something and the importance of absorbing yourself in it. If that makes sense.
Sit down, I feel a ramble coming on…
I think all too often these days we kinda just do everything as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Like once upon a time the food shop was a FULL DAY experience. People would go out to the markets to meet the butcher, then the fruit and veg person, they might pop in the bakers, stop off in the sweet shop. Perhaps pick up some cake from the coffee shop. They’d actually experience the whole thing.
These days you can just add last weeks shopping to your order, make a few changes and then CLICK. Someone else then packs it and delivers it.
In theory, we should have a LOT more time on our hands these days because there are 100s of little things just like that which make our lives easier and more convenient than ever before. Yet why do we always feel so rushed?
Well that’s because efficiency can easily just speed things up. Instead of giving us ample free time, it somehow makes everything come at us a hell of a lot quicker. It’s almost like the quicker you tick things off your list the quicker things get added.
You can literally sit down and instantly do some online banking, order trainers, do your food shop, book a holiday, send an email, watch a brand new film, all from the comfort of your own home in an incredibly efficient way.
This sort of thinking led me to look at the candles in a different way - which was part of the reason we wanted to pair them with books.
We’re not actually selling you matches, really. We’re selling you the chance to slow down. You’re not JUST lighting a candle and reading a book. You’re experiencing a moment as fully as possible.
I think the more we can find things like this in our life and almost “recapture” it the better off we’ll be.
Sure, you can’t always immerse yourself in the experience. Life is life after all.
Sometimes it’s easier to buy bread than to make it.
But every now and then, can’t we take a little longer and actually grind some coffee beans? Go through the process of traveling to the shop to pick some fancy coffee beans, buy a coffee grinder, grind your beans, get your coffee press, allow it to slowly brew, then pour it in a sexy little mug, then sit down with NOTHING ELSE and simply enjoy that coffee.
That’s what I’d love people to be able to do with the Story Time Candles. It’s about mindfully consuming the full experience of it all, from lighting the candle with a stroke of a match, to finishing the last page of a book.
Speaking of finishing a book, Rachel finished this one in two days…
I think that’s it for this week…
I dare say we’ve topped up some other scents - which I think is the plan for next week too - so there’s that. Honestly, topping up scents is the least sexy thing that we do. No one cares if I say “oh, we had 2 Alien clamshells available now we have 18.” But it’s part of the business we need to stay on top of.
When you’ve done as many scents as we have it’s impossible to do them all AND do new ones. So if there’s ever a scent you want to see come back, PLEASE LET US KNOW. Sometimes we have 1 or 2 people say something and that gives us enough of a prompt to actually get it done.
So yeah, I hope all is well with you lot. And I hope that whatever it is you pick to do for the rest of the day, you actually enjoy the process.
Even if you’re having a shit.
You know, really feel it come out. The sound it makes when it hits the pan and slides down the side slowly entering the water. The gentle wipe of the tissue on your bum hole.
I’m sorry, I’ll stop.
Much love,
Ross & Rachel x
