Hello people of the internet! Well by golly would you look at that, we’re yet another week into January already, and here we are with another round of scents added to the website. I know, I know, we’re far too kind and we’re really treating you lately, aren’t we?
Anyway… shall I just dive right in or would you prefer to have a little bit of a tease first?
Just dive right in? Ok, you eager beaver.
The Dark Masquerade Range is BACK 🙌🏻
Ok, not that it technically went anywhere, but it hasn’t been at full strength for a good number of weeks now. So the way we’re trying to work things now is that we pick a collection - like Fresh & Clean last week - and then we not only repour ones that you’ve liked before, but we also try to add a bunch of new ones too.
We’ll try and top up other things too, like aroma oils, candles, and room sprays, and then we’ve ACTUALLY managed to restock a collection properly.
This week, we dove into my FAVOURITE COLLECTION EVER and that’s the Dark Masquerade. Here’s a little preview of what’s been newly added…
I think I like it so much because it’s so open ended. Everyone will have a different interpretation of a scent and I much prefer the creative challenge of designing and thinking about these ones Vs doing fresh scents which feels quite constrictive.
Like what’s Midnight Grace? I love sitting there with these scents and trying to allow my mind to wander. For that one, it wandered to the idea of a room after a rather intense session of love making. Meanwhile, Miss Cherie felt like it had a softly sweet innocence to it, the type of scent that makes misery disappear - you know, the same way a relationship might.
Then we’ve also FINALLY given two older scents a better home to live in.
Pandora’s Box and Arabian Princess - formally Arabian Night - now sit nicely in the Dark Masquerade range. For those that have had them before, you can probably see why.
Pandora’s Box always had this mysterious vibe to it. I believe I described it before as almost smelling like someone had dropped a bowl of lavender in a old library that’s right next to a spice market. I mean where the hell do you normally place that one? Floral? Spa? Good luck!
Likewise with Arabian Princess. It just has this proper exciting/exotic feel to it. It’s always been an underrated seller and one that people tend to sleep on, but it has this “erotic” quality to it. Like you’ve ended up in a high end “massage” place at a Royal Palace somewhere exotic.
Some book inspired ones too!
And for those that looked at the image above you might have noticed a couple inspired by books.
We have At the Night Court, inspired by a Court of Thorns and Roses - or more accurately, it’s inspired by Rhysand. And then Run, Little Mouse which is inspired by Haunting Adeline.
I’ll be honest on the latter one, I didn’t have any intention of doing a Haunting Adeline inspired one - after all, I’m still torn on the book itself. But, the scent we had was Dark Rose & Amber, and jeeeeeez it just felt like a Masquerade one. Then it had these dark rose notes, like if all the nice love had been taken from the rose and instead it was left with a twisted, perverted, darkened love instead. Which really just fit the whole vibe of Haunting Adeline.
So whilst I am still questioning finishing the book - I’m currently reading Jurassic Park and loving it - there is a wax melt for those that want to feel that dark, dangerous love. You know, with the added gun play and actual stalker.
Oh yeah, we’ve also poured a butt load of wickless candle tins too and we SHOULD have a load of new candle warmers in soon! So keep your eyes peeled for that in the future.
Now for a little bit of a ramble…
So that’s the main thing we’ve done this week in terms of Teddy Eva Scents. I know some of you are just here for the scents and the other products - totally fair - and others like a little bit of a read, so I guess this part is for you.
I’ll be honest, I actually feel really good at the moment. I think things have started to click really well with the business in terms of having that separation with Teddy Eva Scents and home.
Don’t get me wrong, the January is usually a nightmare month for us - both personally and the business - as money is always tighter for everyone. But despite the unavoidable stress of running your own business, I still feel alright.
Like I just don’t really pick the laptop up in the house these days. At most, I simply add something to a list on my phone and keep it for when we’re next up the unit.
Isabelle still has ballet too, so I do take the laptop for the car, and sometimes something with a bit more urgency will come up, but other than that, I FINALLY feel like I’ve got it balanced.
Me and Rachel even take Friday off. I call it “pleasure day” which she cringes at the name, so of course I use it more. But it’s not all about “that” sort of pleasure before everyone things we’re bumming for 6 hours.
The goal is to just take a day and do stuff you enjoy. Whether it’s listen to an album with your headphones on, drink some sort of weird tea, cook something that takes a bit more time, read for longer, go out somewhere, or sure… bum for 6 hours.
I think all too often we all feel somewhat guilty for taking time out to do things we enjoy. You’re there thinking you should’ve done this, or cleaned that, or worked on this.
I’ve probably said it before, but everyone loves shouting from the roof tops about how hard they work, but they don’t like to go “ah, I just made a cup of tea and read a book for 2 hours and bloody loved it.”
I mean sure, we could go up the unit on Friday too. But it all comes back to what your goals are?
Most people start a business for a couple of reasons:
Money
Freedom
That’s basically it. Sure, some people want to change the world with an invention, but if you JUST wanted to change the world you could just not apply for a patent and allow other to recreate your work.
For me, it was always the latter.
Ok, let’s be honest, it was actually bonus option number three of “randomly going fuck it let’s do wax melts for a laugh.”
But at my core, I wanted to do something more fulfilling that provided me with the freedom to do what I wanted.
So if freedom is your goal, why work more than you need to?
Like let’s just say for arguments sake I work my ABSOLUTE BOLLOCKS off and do 12 hour sifts every single day with Teddy Eva Scents and grow this thing into some multi-million £ business in 5 years time.
Side note: don’t mention 6 hour bumming sessions if you want to grow a business like that.
Ok, so now I’m loaded.
What now?
What do I want to do now? I’m not an egotistical person that needs to show off and demonstrate to everyone how much money I do or do not have. So there’s no chance Id’ be buying a Rolex and a Versace t-shirt just to stroke my insecurities.
Nope. I’d… want to go away with the kids? Chill out and read? Spend time doing things with Rachel? Like how much different would my life truly be if someone dropped £1,000,000 in my bank account?
I don’t think it would.
There is a part of me that thinks I would do good things in the world if I had the money. That the world could do with some nicer “rich” people out there that simply want to lift others up too. I’d LOVE to be able to do more in the community and things like that. Fund places that need funding, put free things on for kids and stuff like that, but TES is nowhere near big enough to be able to do random stuff like that.
Anyway… my point is, whenever you do things that you’re working towards, always try to play it out. Sometimes you’ll find yourself a LOT closer to your real goal than you actually think.
Well, I guess that’ll do for this week. I dare say I could talk a lot more but I feel like I’ve droned on long enough now, right?
So thank you for reading! And hopefully you’ll all enjoy getting erotically charged whilst sniffing the Masquerade ones!
Much love,
Ross & Rachel x
